Trucking group says over 1,000 drivers, helpers and traders unaccounted for near the border

More than 400 container trucks are missing along the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung and Trishuli corridor, and the people who worked with them, drivers, helpers, labourers and traders, could number more than 1,000 out of contact, Arjun Bahadur Sapkota, president of the Nepal Truck Container Transportation Service, told Onlinekhabar.
This is the transport association's own count, not a figure from Nepal Police or NDRRMA, and it has not been confirmed by the government.
Sapkota said about 175 of the association's 966 registered trucks had gone toward Kerung just before the flood. He said customs delays at the Dhunche checkpoint had left 70 to 80 trucks parked along the highway for three or four days before they were swept away, and that 30 to 40 more were lost in Betrawati, Nuwakot.
Out of contact does not mean dead. Transport operators are asking the government to widen search and rescue to cover the drivers and workers along the route.
