Rasuwa flood: confirmed dead, injured and rescued
Confirmed figures only, with the bulletin and the time attached to each one. Nepal Police put the toll at 289 dead as of 27 August 2026, 2:30 pm NPT, up from 165 that morning.

This is a record of officially confirmed figures with the bulletin and the timestamp attached to each one. It carries no names, no photographs of the dead, and no unverified reports. If you are looking for a specific person, start with the missing persons page, not this one.
The confirmed figures
Read the two headline numbers against their own clocks. The death toll is from the Nepal Police bulletin of 27 August 2026, 2:30 pm NPT. The missing figure is from the earlier police bulletin of 27 August 2026, 8:15 am NPT. The newest bulletin gives a death toll and no missing count, so some of the 826 have since been confirmed among the dead. Damage and rescue figures come from the UN OCHA situation overview, 27 August. Every count here is provisional and moves in both directions.
Where the bodies were recovered
The flood started in Rasuwa, but the river carried people a long way downstream. Most bodies have been recovered in Chitwan, six districts below the source. A district in the table below is where a body was found, not where the person was from.

The Armed Police Force reported 121 bodies recovered from the Narayani river alone by Thursday afternoon. That is more than the entire national toll stood at 24 hours earlier. Chitwan’s mortuary has filled, and an identification centre is being set up.
A further 3 deaths are confirmed on the Chinese side, near Gyirong (Kyirong) county just over the border from Rasuwagadhi, where the dry port and customs area were hit. That brings the confirmed total across both countries to 292.
Injured
73 people are recorded as injured, up from earlier figures as more casualties reached hospitals. Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital reported 31 patients from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha and Dhading under treatment on Thursday morning, several in intensive care on ventilators, and one death in hospital.
Rescued
Search and rescue is being run by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force with military and private helicopters. The destruction of the Syabrubesi helipad on the first morning slowed air operations into the upper valley. NDRRMA puts the number rescued at 113, from Timure, Dhunche, Syabrubesi, Uttargaya and Bidur.

How the toll has moved
This is the clearest illustration of why a casualty figure without a timestamp is useless during an event like this. Every figure below was correct when it was published.

Three separate things move these figures, and they move at different speeds:
- Recovery continues downstream. Bodies are still being found along the Trishuli and the Narayani, so the confirmed dead count is expected to keep rising.
- Access, not death rate, drives the jumps. The sharp rises are teams reaching areas that had been cut off, not new casualties occurring.
- Different bulletins cover different hours. Nepal Police, NDRRMA, the PMO and district authorities publish at different times. Two correct sources can disagree simply because one is three hours older.
This site’s rule: where two sources disagree, show the lower confirmed figure, name the source, and print the time it was published. A number without a timestamp is not usable during an event like this.
