100, 101, 102, 103 and 112 are confirmed against the public emergency-number register. 1149, 1155 and 1144 are the published hotlines of the National Emergency Operation Centre and Nepal Police. If a line is busy, try 100 or 112.
District and hospital numbers
Numbers below the national ones change by district and by hospital, and printing them here would mean printing figures that go out of date without anyone noticing. Instead, these are the official directories that publish and maintain them. Every link is a government or Red Cross page.
Reporting someone missing
Call the nearest District Police Office, or 100. Give the full name, age, last known location, and what the person was wearing.
Register the same details with the local ward office. Ward offices hold the evacuation and shelter lists, which the police list does not always include yet.
If the person may have crossed into China at Rasuwagadhi, say so specifically. Cross-border checks are handled through a separate channel.
Foreign nationals: contact your own country’s embassy in Kathmandu. Embassies coordinate directly with Nepal Police on foreign citizens, and the Department of Immigration holds the entry records that confirm whether someone entered the district.

Before the emergency: save these now
The single most useful thing you can do with this page is stop reading it and add 100, 112 and 1149 to your phone. During an incident, mobile networks are congested and web pages are the slowest thing on a phone. A stored contact does not need a network to find.
- Know a route uphill, not along the road. Roads follow rivers, and they flood first.
- Loud river noise, or water rising with no rain, is the warning. Move first, ask questions later.
- Keep ID, cash, medicines and a torch in one bag you can grab in the dark.
- Pick a family meeting spot above the flood line. Phones stop working first.
- If you run a shop or homestay by the river, plan to lose the ground floor. Know what is load-bearing.

What is the emergency number in Nepal?
100 reaches Nepal Police and is the general emergency number. From any mobile phone, 112 also reaches emergency services and is the one to use if you cannot recall the right number. For an ambulance, call 102; for fire, 101.
What is the disaster hotline in Nepal?
1149 is the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) disaster hotline. 1155 is the Nepal Police toll-free public helpline. Both are national numbers and free to call.
Is there a helpline for tourists in Nepal?
Yes. 1144 is the Tourist Police. Use it for help with visitors and trekkers, including checking on someone who was trekking in an affected area. Your own embassy in Kathmandu is the other route, and the two work together.
