Australia raises its missing count to 39, pledges $5m in aid
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said on Friday that 39 Australians are now unaccounted for in the flood, up from the 35 that Nepal's tourism board had listed a day earlier. She said the number could still rise as officials work through the list, and warned some of those missing may not be found.
Wong also announced A$5 million in Australian aid: 2 million to the World Food Programme, 2 million to Australian NGOs through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, and 1 million to the Emergency Action Alliance for local recovery work. Three more Australian humanitarian specialists are being sent to join the 20 staff already in Nepal.
